Argumentative essay: Is artificial intelligence beneficial for us?

The way of providing goods and services has evolved significantly throughout human history. Starting from simple labor and witnessing the development of machines, humanity is now facing the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and automation. There is much doubt on whether the development of AI would positively affect us. Many fear that we might end up in a dystopian society where artificial intelligence takes away a lot of human jobs and even attempts to conquer the world. However, I believe that AI at the end would not destroy us, but contribute greatly to society.

The rise of automation increases the efficiency of work. Humans are much better than artificial intelligence in the aspect of creativity. Connecting ideas and bringing new ones into existence is what machines are not yet capable of doing. Some say that AI has the ability of creation, mentioning AI-generated music pieces or artworks. Nevertheless, those works do not result from intention or emotion, but merely imitate what humans consider as "artwork." Artificial intelligence can pick up tedious, repetitive parts of work which involves complex and accurate calculations and data analyses. This way, humans will be able to focus more on innovative thinking. For example, an architect would spend less time on measuring, analyzing and ordering materials, but invest more energy in developing new designs and structures according to the clients' desires. With AI, an efficient division of work between humans and machines becomes possible. Both would be able to put effort into fields in which they are relatively superior, resulting in better outcomes. There is no need to worry much about AI taking away all of our jobs since AI is not going to replace us, but rather complement us and work as a collaborator.

The development of artificial intelligence also makes our lives more convenient. We have AI assistants in our phones that can recognize human voices and help us easily obtain information. Currently, technologies related to self-driving cars are developing rapidly, leading us into a world where people no longer need to drive. Financial and banking institutions widely use AI to organize and manage data, lowering the chances of errors and therefore providing accurate results. There is much concern on the uses of AI; many are worried that decisions made by machines may sometimes be unethical or unfair. However, these worries would not stop technological advance or suggest a solution that perfectly substitutes artificial intelligence. Problems have occurred whenever humankind went through a major paradigm shift. Carefully examining AI and its effects on society would eventually help us come up with better ideas, and would at the end minimize adverse impacts of artificial intelligence.

Although it is true that there is a lot of uncertainty and danger in the development of artificial intelligence, humans and AI nonetheless have the potential to bring together tremendous synergy. AI is a valuable tool we can use to increase the efficiency of work and convenience. It even lets us "work more human," giving us a chance to use our innate sense of creativity. With deep thoughts on the regulation of specific boundaries AI can reach, humans and artificial intelligence can make a great team to achieve the ultimate goal of influencing society positively.
